GeM Registration Checklist Before You Start
Registering on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) can be incredibly rewarding for your business, but the process on the GeM v4 portal is rigorous. The portal integrates with multiple government databases (Income Tax, GSTN, MCA, UIDAI) to verify data in real-time. A single mismatch can halt your registration. To ensure a seamless onboarding experience, we have compiled the ultimate GeM registration checklist to review before you even click "Sign Up."
Important Note: Preparation is critical. Gathering and verifying your documents beforehand can reduce the registration time from days to mere hours.
Phase 1: Identity and Access Readiness
The first stage of GeM registration focuses on verifying the individual managing the account (the Primary User).
Primary User Verification Checklist
- Valid Aadhaar Card: Ensure the Primary User has an updated Aadhaar card.
- Aadhaar-Linked Mobile Number: This is crucial. Check if the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar is active, as the OTP for primary verification will be sent here.
- Alternative: Personal PAN: If Aadhaar verification isn't possible, ensure you have the Primary User's Personal PAN card ready.
- Name Consistency: Verify that the Primary User's name is spelled exactly the same on their Aadhaar and PAN cards. Mismatches will cause errors.
- Active Professional Email ID: Have an active email address ready. It is highly recommended to use a company domain email (e.g., name@yourcompany.com) rather than generic providers (like Gmail or Yahoo), as this builds trust.
Phase 2: Business Documentation and Compliance
Once the user is verified, GeM will validate your business entity.
Business Entity Checklist
- Business PAN Card: Ready and valid. For proprietorships, this will be the personal PAN.
- GST Registration Certificate: Ensure your GSTIN is active.
- Check: Have all recent GST returns been filed? GeM often blocks accounts with non-compliant GST statuses.
- Certificate of Incorporation / Partnership Deed: If you are a Company or Partnership firm, have these legal documents scanned and ready.
- Address Proof: Ensure you have documentation (electricity bill, rent agreement) that matches the registered office address provided.
Critical Warning: Data consistency is paramount. The business name must match exactly across the PAN card, GST certificate, and Bank Account. "ABC Enterprises" on PAN and "A.B.C Enterprises" on GST might trigger a manual review or rejection.
